Cornell horticultural sites:

• PLHRT4920 - Urban Eden, Spring 2021
• Woody Plants Database - The supporting site for PLHRT4910/4920. It has locations, descriptions, and photos for all of the plants covered in those courses.
• Cornell Botanic Gardens Plant Database - An online listing of over 5,500 specimens in their collection. The database has enormous amounts of information about the individual specimens, including the cultivar and (in some cases) even the vendor from whom the plant was purchased. Locations are only by garden, but the specimens are tagged, so they're easy to find once you're in the right area.

Ithaca- and New-York-specific botanical reference sites:

• Ithaca Blooms - A portal to an absolutely amazing amount of information about what's growing in Ithaca. You can look up street trees by common name or scientific name and find all the examples. The interface needs some work, but presumably it will improve.
• Ithaca Tree Tours - Similar to the resource above but less overwhelming, this site will take you on tours of different interesting trees in Ithaca neighborhoods.
• New York Flora Atlas - A huge amount of information about plants found around New York state.

Tompkins-county-specific gardening reference sites:

• Cornell Cooperative Extension - Always the first place to check.
• Daily Soil Temperature Map - Also from Cornell. Great resource to help you know when to plant.

Botanical organizations:

• National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) -
• Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research (SABER) - "a scientific community whose members develop theory and generate evidence with the goals of improving post-secondary biology education"
• Botanical Society of America (BSA) - "Our main area of expertise is in supporting professional botanists and their students, and we also encourage K-12 teachers, community college educators, affiliated professionals and amateurs as members who can benefit from what we have to offer."
• American Fern Society (AFS) - "established in 1893 with the objective of fostering interest in ferns and lycophytes, or pteridophytes" (They also run a very cool spore exchange.)

General botanical reference sites:

• World Flora Online - The most current resource for checking scientific names of plants.
• GBIF | Global Biodiversity Information Facility - This one is new and I don't know much about it yet, but it seems like a good resource.
• USDA PLANTS database - Some of the family classifications are (very) out-of-date but it has enormous amount of information about plant species found in the United States.
